KEVIN MATTHEWS

Senator Kevin L. Matthews is the past Chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus, and founding Chair of the 1921 Race Massacre Centennial Commission, which built Greenwood Rising in Tulsa. (A 30 million dollar effort). He served 25 years on the Tulsa Fire Department where he retired in January 2010 as the Administrative Fire Chief (Chief of Personnel) where he had budget responsibilities of 52 million dollars for a 700 personnel Department.

Senator Matthews was elected to public service as a State Representative in 2012 and was elected as a State Senator in April 2015. Prior to being elected to the Senate, he was accepted into and graduated from the Center for Advanced Leadership and the Andrew Young School of Policy Council in Atlanta, Georgia. 

While a State Representative, Senator Matthews was accepted and attended the Darden School of Business Emerging Leaders (Executive Education) Program at the University of Virginia in July 2013.

Senator Matthews passed unanimously in both the House and Senate of Oklahoma SB 509 creating a revolving find for the Oklahoma Civil Rights Trail and it was signed into law by Governor Kevin Stitt. trail at 1.5 million dollars has passed the Oklahoma Senate by a Super Majority vote.
